(4) pulp-detective mentality & rationalisations; the chief part of the piece’s inventiveness lies in these, and also in the specificity of the incidentals - e.g. the fates of the pilfered 2 bottles of vinegar, neon window sign & (especially) handful of napkins. (1) A bizarre one this; in fact “Whatever’s going on?” is a question one of the detectives actually asks about half way through (about, not exactly, which seems appropriate).
